My main research objectives are complement mediated renal diseases, in particular C3 glomerulopathy and the hemolytic uremic syndrome. As pediatric nephrologist/translational researcher, For more than last two decades together with Prof Dr Bert van den Heuvel, we lead a research group on complement mediated disorders, including complement diagnostics in HUS and C3 glomerulopathy in the NL as National Reference Laboratory for complement mediated diseases. (including genetic analysis including micro-array analysis and next generation sequencing as well as all kinds of complement protein analysis (functional complement assays, C3 and C4 nephritic factor). Chair of the Dutch national aHUS working group in which pediatric and adult nephrologists participate, which serves as advisory board for aHUS and the use of eculizumab. Project leader of the CUREiHUS study, monitoring the Dutch aHUS guideline on the use of eculizumab in aHUS, Chair of the TMA-ERKNET working group. Chair of international Steering Committee of International symposia on VTEC/STEC infections.
