Dr. Priya Verghese

Pediatric Nephrology

Priya Verghese, is a pediatric nephrologist with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She secured admission into one of India’s top five medical colleges and came to the USA to complete pediatric residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she declined an invitation to be chief resident to pursue a pediatric nephrology fellowship and a subsequent transplant fellowship at the University of Washington while simultaneously earning a degree in the Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. Dr. Verghese served over a decade at the University of Minnesota, as medical director for pediatric kidney transplant, and the president of the hospital clinical service unit board before moving to Chicago to become Division Head of the Pediatric Nephrology Division at Lurie Children's.

Since her arrival, she has revamped the division to reduce patient wait times, create a unique service model to meet the needs of the patients, increased the division’s research profile and formalized the educational curriculum of the nephrology training program for medical students, residents and fellows even winning a prestigious Department Leadership Award. Nationally she is an acclaimed transplant nephrologist; has several publications in high impact journals and is invited to speak across the world to share her transplant expertise and research.

She has served as a patient and research advocate through her work with the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology (where she is currently a council member), the Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium (she is currently on their Board) and the American Society of Transplantation.
